Learning to Wog so I can Jog

Hi! This is my new blog, dedicated to following my adventures in learning how to jog.

This whole thing got started because I am trying to lose weight & be more healthy in general. I've cleaned up my diet a lot, and I've been working out too. But last month I stopped paying for a gym membership, for a couple of reasons that I don't want to get into here. So I started looking for 'free' ways to work out. So I bought some resistance bands, free weights, a jump rope, and signed up for a yoga class. And I started walking down the paved trail that goes through the village where I live.

My sister who has always been active, and used to do cross country wants a jogging buddy. She has decided that we need to run (in my case JOG) a 5k next spring. And I'm sitting here thinking "Hey now I have a goal! Get in shape for a 5k, get some exercise and hopefully lose weight too! Great." But I've NEVER been able to jog before. Like ever. Nor did I know where to start. So I found a plan to follow here: Running Planet.

I started last Thursday... I am calling the walk/jog portion 'wogging' hence the title of this blog. :) I went wogging with my mom, she doesn't want to wog so I did my wogging portion then doubled back to where she was walking and we continued to walk for the rest of my 5 minutes, then repeated the cycle. By the time I was done my legs felt loose but my lungs hurt. My upper chest felt tight. I stretched afterwards, went home, woke up in the middle of the night coughing up a lung and spent the rest of the night propped up. Then my legs decided to burn for the next couple of days.

Today I woke up, my legs were still slightly stiff but that wore off as I moved around. Then I decided to go for a wog this evening. There was a car accident that had occurred along the walking trail. A mini-van had pulled out and cut off a truck that had been driving down the road sending the truck off the road, right through this lady's decorative fence & landscaping. Yeah, and I was talking to her next door neighbor (who of course was out watching this whole thing go down with the cops & the tow trucks) and apparently the people in the truck told the lady that they had no insurance on their car! Which is crazy since the law here in MI states that you HAVE to have insurance on a car to get the plates renewed.

Wogging today was easier, I felt like my lungs weren't going to seize up and keep me from breathing. However my legs felt more wobbly today, and by jogging time #4 I didn't even want to do it anymore, my legs were just feeling so so lazy. Tomorrow I have yoga... hopefully it won't be as hard on my legs as it was last week. We were learning warrior pose... and she kept making us hold the position as she was explaining things to us so my legs felt like jelly by the time we were done. Gyah! And hopefully my lungs don't get full of phlegm again tonight.

I just need to keep at it, and will keep this blog posted on my progress & how I'm doing. :)
